Facilities at The Elms

The home is well decorated throughout and the communal areas are set up so residents can choose between company and quiet. Nothing here is grand. It is comfortable, warm and looked after, which is what people actually want.

Bedrooms

Thirty four single bedrooms arranged over two floors, with the upper floor served by a passenger lift. Every room has a nurse call point, a profiling bed, a television and a three piece furniture set. Some rooms have en suite toilet facilities and all are close to a bathroom. Residents choose their own soft furnishings and bring in mementos, photographs and, where space allows, furniture from home.

Living space

Two communal lounges, a dining room and conservatory, and a reading area with Wi-Fi and access to a computer. A tablet is available to any resident who wants a video call with family or friends. The private patio garden gets the sun and is where a good deal of the summer happens.

Laundry and daily running

There is an on site laundry. All clothing is labelled and returned clean and pressed, which sounds like a small thing until it goes wrong somewhere else.

Getting out

The home runs a minibus for trips out. Saltash sits on the Tamar, so a change of scene is never a long drive, and we attend a local community group as well as organising excursions through the year.
